  54. We  have some of the nominations for the VK2 WIA elections for 
  55. Council to be declared at the AGM on 10th April. The following 
  56. nominees  are  being supported by the Ad-Hoc Committee as  in-
  57. dependent candidates for the Council of the WIA (NSW Division) 
  58. and  considered  worthy   of  the trust  and  support  of  the 
  59. amateurs of NSW.

  80. STOP PRESS FOR FIELD DAY... The Morse Contest resulted in a win in
  81. both xmitting and rxing to VK2IC.  Errors were  TWO marks and  ONE
  82. mark respectively.  He was presented with the Presidential  Bottle
  83. for each victory. Well done and may he enjoy the fruits of victory.

  86. Reminder of the change in 80m broadcast relay
  87. -----------------------------
  88. Due  to very poor propagation in this part of the cycle during 
  89. summer  months,  it has been decided to drop the 80m relay  of 
  90. the  cast  from December to March inclusive.  The  relay  will 
  91. resume  on  the first Sunday in April,  which is the 3rd  this 
  92. year.

  104. hours of rest periods may not be less than 3 hours each. Times

  133.              Summary of activity
  134.  
  135. Solar  activity  was very low on 19th and 21st  February,  low 
  136. 18th  and  22nd-24th,  and moderate on 20th.  There was an  M4 
  137. flare on 20th.
  138.  
  139. The  geomagnetic  field at Learmonth (WA) was quiet  on  18th, 
  140. mainly  quiet  to unsettled on 19th-20th with a  brief  active 
  141. period  on  each of those days.  On 21st the field  was  quiet 
  142. until  0900UT  when a sudden commencement  of  135nT  occurred 
  143. raising the field to major storm levels. The field on 22nd was
  144. at active to minor storm levels until 1500UT,  then  returning
  145. to quiet to unsettled on 23rd, and quiet on 24th.
  146.  
  147. Ionospheric  F2 critical frequencies on 18th-19th were 10 - 30
  148. per cent above predicted values, then nearnormal on 20th until
  149. late  in the UT day when frequencies were enhanced by  30  per
  150. cent.  Frequencies  were enhanced by up to 35 per cent on 21st
  151. until 1500UT when they became depressed by up to 30 per  cent.
  152. This  continued  until  0700UT  on  22nd  then  returned  near
  153. predicted  values  for the rest of the day.  On 23rd and  24th
  154. frequencies were mostly near normal,  with a short  depression
  155. on 23rd at 1200UT,  and several brief enhancements of up to 30
  156. per  cent  on 24th.  Sporadic E blanketed the F region  for  a
  157. short  period on 22nd,  and may have affected F layer communi-
  158. cations on several occasions on 23rd February.
  159.  
  160.           Forecast for the next week (25 - 3 March)             
  161.

  163.  
  164. Geomagnetic: Quiet to unsettled with isolated active conditions
  165.              on the 3rd.

  247. ST PETER & PAUL ZY0.  The operators on the Feb. 7th had severe
  248. problems with both generators.  Fault was located on the kick-
  249. off cables which could not be repaired due to lack of suitable 
  250. tools.  They  had to run on battery with about 10 watts  until 
  251. Feb. 14.
  252.  
  253. AH3D/KH0  Activity.   Members  of the  International  DX  Golf 
  254. Tournament have been active from 9 to 13 February as AH3D/KH0. 
  255. While  the  SSB spot were reporting that call sign on RTTY  no 
  256. mention of /KH0 ??
  257.  
  258. BELIZE,  V3.   Large  activity is expected from this  country. 
  259. Look  for V31PP from 19 Feb to 12 March on all bands  SSB  and 
  260. RTTY.   Another operation is planned from Sigi, DL7UUO from 20 
  261. Feb. to March 3rd using V31UO on SSB, CW, RTTY and PACTOR.

  320. I heard second hand (this is how rumors start!) a report about an FCC
  321. official being fired because of incompetance.   Here is what I was
  322. told:

  324. National Public Radio reported Friday 4 Mar, that:
  325. The executive at the FCC whose responsibility included the computers
  326. systems used at the commission, was fired due to his incompetance.
  327.  
  328. I did not hear this report; I was asked if I had heard it and if I knew
  329. anything more about it.   I had no information about it, but was
  330. curious.
  331.  
  332. Is this report close to correct?   What has anyone else heard or read
  333. concerning this topic?  Please indicate sources.

  355. To Whom It May Concern;
  356.  
  357.         If anyone actually cares about the libelous remarks put on INTERNET
  358. by Steve Woodward, KD2KQ, I would like to set the record straight. Consider
  359. the following:
  360.  
  361. 1.) I dealt only with Dave Hallidy, KD5RO. All correspondence, money,
  362. material, etc. was handled by and through him.
  363.  
  364. I HAVE ALL THE ORIGINAL LETTERS FROM HIM, WITH DATES, QUANTITIES AND SO ON.
  365.  
  366. 2.) The first letter I received concerning this business was dated July 27,
  367. 1992 and the last letter received was dated November 19, 1992.
  368.  
  369. 3.) Per the last letter received, out of a total of 15 TWTs and 15 TWT power
  370. supplies, only one TWT was "damaged" (had a bent connector) and one power
  371. supply had failed. All units were tested here at K-MEC prior to shipment 
  372. by myself and Don Davis, WB3AXQ. At that time I was trying to get another 
  373. power supply for Dave Hallidy to give out, but all the ones I had were dead.
  374. I gave Dave several dead ones thinking that a "board swap" might fix one or 
  375. more of them.
  376.  
  377. 4.) Further, due to the VERY LOW PRICE I was asking, (125.00 for tube 
  378. & supply, 25.00 more for X-band), I sold out before the end of summer. The
  379. only complaint I received was from Rochester, out of the entire country,
  380. Canada, England and Australia!
  381.         I did not have an infinite supply to keep sending replacements 
  382. FOR THOSE DAMGED BY THE END USER.
  383.  
  384. 5.)  Dave Hallidy was responsible for dispersement of the goods. He told 
  385. in a 'phone conversation that Steve, KD2KQ, had attempted to 
  386. "get more power" out of his TWTA and had "blown it up" while adjusting it.  
  387. DAVE HAD GIVEN STEVE A REPLACEMENT TUBE AND SUPPLY OUT OF THE YET 
  388. UN-DISTRIBUTED SUPPLY THAT I HAD SHIPPED TO DAVE, BECAUSE "STEVE SAYS HE HAD
  389. JUST SLIGHTLY ADJUSTED THE POWER AND THE SUPPLY QUIT".
  390.  
  391. 6.) No one offered to return any of the shipped material, at any time, for 
  392. credit against the time when I would get more tubes & supplies.
  393.  
  394.         There are only two people who complained from Rochester. One is 
  395. Steve, probably one of the most despicable, underhanded, lying cheats I have
  396. ever known, which considering some of the people you meet at Hamfests is
  397. quite a statement. Hey, Steve, remember how you guys cheated me on the 
  398. waveguide deal, getting me to drive hundreds of pounds of X-band Waveguide 
  399. from Baltimore to Rochester, then refusing to pay the AGREED upon price, 
  400. telling me to "take it or leave it".
  401.  
  402. The second guy to complain is George Anderson, because Dave Hallidy admittied
  403. to me that he gave Georges's TWT supply to Steve. When I told George that he
  404. would have to see Dave to remedy the situation, George told me that Dave had 
  405. "moved to another town, and I don't see him anymore", and "Dave and I aren't 
  406. on great terms, anyway".
  407.  
  408.         I did not ship any material that I knew to be bad and I believe that 
  409. Steve blew his supply up and blames me. Only 1 power supply caused trouble
  410. out of 14 ordered, which is about 7% and that due to idiot operator 
  411. mal-adjustment. Other than the described problem, Dave Hallidy wrote me that 
  412. "All the other tubes and supplies work very well and the people who have 
  413. gotten them are pleased".
  414.         Plus, I gave them more good tubes and dead supplies, free of charge.
  415. Even if the one power supply had failed of old age, what the HELL do you 
  416. expect from USED SURPLUS. These tubes & supplies are multi-kilobuck items. 
  417. Therefore if you want an absolute guarantee, buy new ones!
  418.  
  419.         Further, Steve lies when he says this took "well over a year" when it
  420. took only 4 months from start to finish.
  421.  
  422.         His true nature as a despicable person is evident by the way he 
  423. "wants to pay Jeff back" by lying on the INTERNET.
  424.  
  425.         I was actively working with these clowns, trying to help them out 
  426. and see that everything was made good on. After the waveguide deal, the LIES
  427. that followed the tube deal and the whole general atmosphere of the 
  428. "Rochester Group", I had enough. Hey Steve, go ahead, go elsewhere, because 
  429. I REFUSE TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU.
  430.  
  431.         The paltry sum that I get from selling to people like this is not, in
  432. anyway, compensation for the crap I have to take from lying bozos like this 
  433. guy. (Bozo - yes, read his e-mail, he can't spell OR compose.)
  434.         One thing is certain, I will always find neat stuff for people who
  435. deal with me honestly and I won't miss the business of the jerks like this
  436. who don't. They will lose instead. I feel that Steve and his "friends" were
  437. trying to pull a fast one on me and get free stuff.
  438.         I am ready to support my side of the matter with the mail and the 
  439. shipping records with anyone who really cares. I am considering legal action
  440. for libel in response to the untrue and unjust claims made by Steve Woodard.
